John has been playing bass since he was 19. A relatively late starter, he got his first lesson from a friend from University (James Towers). "My dad is a drummer so my roots were always in the rhythm section. I found myself listening to the bass more than anything else… Meeting Jim at Uni was my first opportunity to get my hands on an instrument."
Several years of "bedroom playing" later (using the wardrobe as an amplifier), a conversation in the kitchen at work between a saxophone player and guitarist was overheard (it was a noisy kitchen), "If only we knew someone here who could play bass!" one of them exclaimed. And so The Bag Ladies were formed.
John has been playing for 13 years now and has played with such names as: Ben Chappel, Marcus Bullingham, Mike Roberts, Jim Towers, Neil Hutchison, Lee Matthews, Katie Chaplin, Terry the Tambourine, Mark Wheeler, Andy Perry, Phil Cambridge, Barry Big Arms, Tony Imbierski. To name but a few.
Influences include: Anything tight and funky.
Favourite bass part: The Lemon Song, Led Zepplin
